Here are the books that we are currently recommending
These are the books that we are reading and recommend.
The Reason for God
Keller takes people's questions seriously, getting under the skin of doubts that stand in the way of belief in God. He doesn't brush them aside in a hurry to share the gospel, but takes the time to show that these popular doubts have their problems. With doubts exposed as unnecessary Keller then moves to lay out a warm and persuasive case for Christianity.
The Reason for God is written to be utterly accessible to any skeptic and I'd gladly give it to anyone. This will also be a great resource to anyone in the church who wants to be more thoughtful in their beliefs and their explaining of them. See Tim Keller interviewed on this book here.
A Few Good Men
Richard Coekin examines a series of biblical men who faced the same struggles that men still face today: sexual temptation, peer pressure, guilt, fear and worry. Vaughan Roberts calls it 'a hugely inspiring book, full of dramatic story-telling and sparkling Biblical insights'. Great for reading on your own or working through in a men's group.
If you could ask God one question, and you knew it would be answered, what would it be?
Paul Williams and Barry Cooper have spent several years asking people that question. And inside this book, they reveal the results: the 12 most frequently asked questions about God.
But this isn't just a book about questions. There are answers too. Answers from the lips of the most powerful, insightful and extraordinary figure in all of human history.
Paul Williams worked in the newspaper industry before studying theology at Oak Hill college in London. After several years as the Assistant Pastor of Christ Church Ware and St Peter's Harold Wood, he served at All Souls Langham Place in London. He is currently Senior Pastor at Christ Church Fulwood in Sheffield.
Barry Cooper has attended All Souls Church in London for the last eight years and now works full time with Christianity Explored as Associate Evangelist, writing course material, training and speaking. He co-wrote Christianity Explored, The Real Jesus, CY, Discipleship Explored and the screenplay for the CE DVDs.
Steve Wallace writes with his 2 recommendations from the mission field:
"For what it's worth - a call to no holds barred discipleship"
by Simon Guillebaud. This is a great book - I actually know Simon and was a bit surprised he could write such a good book :-)
"Fearfully and wonderfully made"
by Paul Brand (ghost writen by Philip Yancey) This is actually an old book (from the 80's) that we stumbled across by accident and I was left how this book managed to pass me by first time round. Again very very good. |
