Music & Worship at St Andrew's
Through the bible we find the whole family of God expressing themselves through song both individually and corporately. Whilst corporate song is something that is quite alien to many parts of today's culture, it remains a central part of our common life together.
In our services we seek to facilitate an environment where people feel free to worship God in both spirit and truth. Worship is, of course, about the whole of our lives, but there is something special about when people gather together to celebrate who God is and to humbly bring ourselves, worts and all, before our loving Creator.
We aim to use a wide range of music across our congregations, but with particular 'leans'
0930 - quality family worship, and time for (often tired) parents to have space with God
1115 - rich hymnody and liturgical music, supplemented with lyrical worship songs
Evening - contemporary worship with space to be experimental
The music is led by a community of worship leaders, singers and other musicians who focus on a particular service. The Music Director co-ordinates these groups, and each group aims to have time together away from the pressure of leading worship at a service.
We aim to involve as many people as would like to be involved, but inevitably there are some practical constraints! The services are led by the following groups
0930 - a core 0930 worship band who are committed to regular involvement, supplemented by a wider pool of singers and instrumentalists who are involved less frequently
1115 - a core choir who are committed to weekly involvement, supplemented by others less frequently. (see choirs for more information)
Evening - a core evening worship band who are committed to regular involvement, supplemented by a wider pool of singers and instrumentalists who are involved less frequently
There are also other miscellaneous gatherings of people for occasional Taizé, Holy Week and Christmas services.
